Frequently Asked Questions

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The first step of the process begins by  taking a mould/impression of your baby's foot or hand using a premium, non-toxic, skin safe seaweed based impression material called Alginate, this is the material that is typically used at the dentist when they take an impression of your mouth.

The impression material only takes a couple of minutes to set and it doesn't matter if your child wriggles a little bit, the material can tolerate some movement and still gives a beautiful detailed cast.

The casting appointment usually takes between 30-60 minutes depending on how many casts need to be taken. I then take the impressions away to create the  cast by using a high-quality premium plaster. Once the cast has thoroughly dried I can apply the finish that you have chosen and frame your casts.

Unfortunately I am unable to post the finished casts as they are fragile and cannot be remade if they are broken in transit. But we can arrange a convenient time for collection or I can deliver locally.

I like to allow an hour for the impressions and frame choosing but it typically does not take this long.

The finished product can take 8-12 weeks to be finished. If you need your casting for a specific date we can arrange this so please do not hesitate to ask.

Casting can be done at any age from 1 week to 100 years old! All the materials that I use are completely safe to use on newborn babies.

The impression taking is carried out in my studio, I am based in East Grinstead.

Home visits can be arranged if this is more convenient for you (travel costs will apply), however due to the nature of the work I advise attending the appointment at the studio where possible as it can get messy.

The finished casts are typically ready for collection around 8 -12 weeks after your impression taking appointment. Larger pieces could take longer but I will discuss this with you upon booking.

The drying of the casts is a process which cannot be rushed in order to ensure a perfect finish.

Yes - I have lots of options in regards to framing and mounting. You can choose something that will perfectly suit the room that you intend to display your casts in.

Absolutely - I have gift vouchers which you can buy and give as a gift.  They make a great present for a baby shower or new parents. I have physical vouchers that you can collect or I can post to you, alternatively I can email a digital voucher to you if this is more convenient.

etI take the impression for your casting using a material called Alginate, it is gentle, safe, and suitable for use on delicate surfaces such as baby skin and pet fur. Derived naturally from seaweed, alginate has been widely used for many years in medical, dental, and food applications because of its skin-friendly and non-toxic properties. Its soft texture and quick setting time make it an ideal choice for creating detailed impressions while remaining comfortable and safe for both babies and pets.

Unfortunately I cannot post the finished product as the casts and frames are extremely delicate and cannot be replicated if they get damaged in the post.

We can arrange a payment plan when you book your appointment, the full balance will have to be received before collection.
